Spacious Ford Transit undergoes transformation into luxurious motorhome
Jennings Ford, part of the Jennings Motor Group, has secured a contract to supply a number of new Transit models to a local company who will be converting the vehicles into bespoke mobile homes for customers.
Devon Conversions Ltd, a motorhome and camper manufacturer, based in Ferryhill, County Durham, is one of the first motorhome companies to utilise the new Transit model from Ford’s award-winning commercial vehicle range after purchasing a model from Jennings Ford’s Transit Centre in Middlesbrough, 18 months ago and transforming it into a mobile home.
Following a high specification design and layout, the long wheelbase 2.2-litre (125 bhp) turbo diesel Ford Transit Trend model, named the Discovery motorhome by Devon Conversions Ltd, offers an interesting combination of features at a highly competitive price.
Peter Gowland, managing director of County Durham-based Devon Conversions Ltd, said; “We are very pleased to be building on the new Ford Transit model, which is in a class of its own. When the new Discovery was road tested this month in Which Motorhome, their description was that it “takes van design to a new level.”

The interest and positive response following its debut at the NEC Caravan and Motorhome Exhibition in October last year, has resulted in the company placing an additional order for another four Ford Transit Trend vehicles from Jennings Ford’s Transit Centre on Cargo Fleet Lane in Middlesbrough.
Alan Bailes, commercial general manager at Jennings Ford’s Transit Centre in Middlesbrough, said: “We are delighted to have forged a good working relationship with such a forward-thinking and innovative company and look forward to further strengthening this in the future.
“The conversion concept is an exciting and innovative service for customers looking for a high quality and competitively-priced motorhome.”
Sleeping two people in a generous 6’4” x 4’ bed, the living accommodation is both generous and luxurious.
An L-shaped lounge area at the front can be converted into a dinette layout with facing bench seats, giving enough space for two passengers to use the two three-point seatbelts, or alternatively a U-shaped lounge incorporating the swivel front seats.
The kitchen area has a sink set under a smoked glass lid with a matching cover hiding the twin burner hob, which is set above an oven. The area also incorporates a cupboard, pan drawer, cutlery drawer and built-in wine rack.
Located opposite is a washroom with fixed hand basin, toilet and two cupboards, in addition to a mirror, shower tray and outlet for the Truma combi gas and electric blown air heating, which draws from an underfloor 30-litre gas tank.
Specification of the Transit Trend model includes a six speed manual gearbox with cruise control, cab air conditioning, passenger airbag, heated windscreen and door mirrors, power adjustment and folding for the door mirrors, metallic paint, and Bluetooth connectivity.
