Question

Hi JenningsFord, I have a ford focus 2004 tdci with 90k on the clock. It makes a nasty noise upon start up whether cold or hot and the noise also continues as the car is idling. When under load, accelerating or cruising their is no noise. It sounds as if something is rubbing and at first I thought cambelt but on inspection it seems to be coming from the fanbelt or some other belt and I can smell something rubbing from down there! The betls all looks fine and the car drives fine, would do you think the problem could be?? Any other belts that could be rubbing or catching something??? Thanks in advance Richard Puddle

Answer

Normaly this is just belt noise, you could check this by spraying a small amout of WD 40 in the area, and listen to see if the noise changes
