Ford EcoBoost engine
What are Ford EcoBoost engines?
Ford EcoBoost engines are a range of award winning engines that emit reduced levels of CO2 whilst producing the same power as traditional petrol engines. Available between 1.0 litre and 3.5 litre in size, can lead to up 20% increase in fuel efficiency
Every drop of fuel is precious to an EcoBoost engine. So precious in fact, that it actually reduces fuel consumption and also provides a reduction in CO2 emissions – to as low as 99g/km.
There are turbochargers in every EcoBoost engine that give a power that far exceeds engine size. Turbocharging uses exhaust gases, which are usually wasted, to push more highly compressed air into the engine and give a huge boost to their power. A 1.0 litre EcoBoost engine can deliver an impressive performance up to 140PS, similar to an older, heavier 1.6 litre petrol engine.
How do Ford EcoBoost engines work?
Combining direct fuel injection, variable valve timing and turbo charging to reduce fuel consumption without effecting performance. Water cooled exhausts reduce temperatures of the exhaust reducing fuel needed to keep the exhaust cool.
The 1.0 litre EcoBoost engine has been twice been named International Engine of the Year – 2012 and 2013. Producing the same power as a traditional 1.6 petrol engine, the 1.0 litre has a 20% reduction in fuel consumption.
